Aboriginal Head Start

Under One Sky Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) serves urban Indigenous children ages 2-5 and their families who live in the Fredericton areas. The goal of the program is to support the early childhood development of Indigenous children as they enter the mainstream school system. The purpose of AHS is to help children succeed by doing activities that help them grow socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It also helps give children a positive sense of themselves as an Indigenous person and learn Indigenous knowledge, language and culture in their communities.

At Head Start, we strive to:

  • Provide Indigenous children with Early Childhood Education

  • Include parents and guardians in all aspects of the Aboriginal Head Start including planning, implementations and evaluation

  • Promote the retention of Indigenous languages and cultures

  • Enrich family and build community

  • Build partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and communities

  • Help families gain access to health services, nutritional services, resources, programs and information in the community
