Indigenous Cultural Awareness Trainings

Colonization has caused systematic discrimination that directly affects the quality of service that Indigenous people receive. We believe that the first step to reconciliation is understanding and respecting one another. Cultural awareness trainings and cultural safety practices are vital components in fostering understanding and respect for diverse cultures, including Indigenous communities. These trainings aim to enhance individuals' understanding of cultural differences, historical contexts, and the impacts of colonization and systemic discrimination on Indigenous peoples and their communities.

Indigenous Cultural Diversity Training (ICDT)

We offer 4 hour professional development workshops on cultural safety and humility in the workplace, with an emphasis on Indigenous peoples. The training includes ceremonies with a local Knowledge Carrier, drumming, group activities and discussions meant for individuals and groups to come together to explore cultural humility q enhance self-awareness

As an Indigenous led non-profit, our program facilitators provide first hand insights and practical knowledge that participants can apply in their personal and professional life.

KAIROS Blanket Exercise (KBE)

KBEs were developed in collaboration with Elders, Indigenous educators and allies in 1997 as a response to the Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. This experiential workshops explores our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples on Turtle Island.

This participatory history lesson fosters truth, respect, and reconciliation in our community. Developed in collaboration with local Elders, it includes a talking circle and is approximately 4 hours long.

"It felt like this was so much more than a training session. You created an environment where we are building a relationship to continue to work together. I absolutely loved how welcoming and friendly this session was - you created such a comfortable atmosphere while still delivering a lot of content."

“I really felt today was powerful and I learned so much.”

“Under One Sky always offers such wonderful training and programming. The staff is so knowledgable and they make you feel like family. They are teaching people things that they need to know and are so happy to share their knowledge. I would take this training 100 times.”

This was a my first time having a community exposure to an organized form of learning about the history of colonization for the indigenous population. I am grateful for learning about this non-profit centre and it offers a safe friendly environment to foster learning.

"Incredible facilitators with so much knowledge, lived experience and wisdom to share."

“I think these topics always leave me in awe and shock, just because they are not prevalent and haven’t been prevalent. I’m from a generation where residential school systems were still functioning. I would like to thank you for all that you shared and I am committed to continuing the learning process for myself and those around me.”

“I would recommend this training because I think EVERYONE should take it. The facilitators were so welcoming and kind and understood that the knowledge level would be different throughout. The content was so important and interesting. It was things a lot of people don’t know or think about. It was also interactive which is always a plus.”
